IT services group Novian contributes to the promotion of science in the country. This year, the company awarded scholarships to four young scientists for their best research work in the field of ICT in areas such as car navigation, the properties of pharmaceuticals, and light and music sound sources.
The winners were selected in cooperation with the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences (LAS), and the total value of the scholarships is EUR 4,300. The diplomas certifying the scholarships were awarded to the winners on 22 May this year during an event at the LAS.
The Novian competition was open to entries selected during the LAS’s Young Scientists’ Conference ’Interdisciplinary Research in the Physical and Technological Sciences’, which was organized for the 13th time. They were evaluated by the Novian jury based on their relevance, practical applicability and the application of the technology, as well as the priority technological themes of the competition.
“This competition is important for both young scientists and businesses. It encourages young scientists to look at the practical side of research to find broader applications, and it gives businesses a closer look at where their science is going and what it is doing. All this would not be possible without the belief in the synergy between science and business, and we are grateful to Novian, the company that established the scholarships,” said Jūras Banys, President of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences.
“We believe in the future of Lithuanian science and its importance in the development of the country’s technological progress, which is why we are contributing to the promotion of this field,” says Gytis Umantas, CEO of Novian Technologies. “Quantum technologies, artificial intelligence – all the things we recently called the future – are already a reality. And this would not be possible without successful cooperation between science and business,” said the CEO, who is also the President of the Lithuanian Quantum Technologies Association.
Two first-prize scholarships (EUR 1,750 each) have been awarded to Žyginta Murnikova for her research ‘Study of Enhanced Solubility of Glibenclamide in Aqueous Ionic Liquid Solutions’ and to Aidas Žygas, who presented his work ‘Separation of Music Sound Sources: the architecture of the SCNet model, training data and quality assessment’.
This year, Novian also awarded two incentive scholarships (EUR 400 each) to Oskaras Klimašauskas for his work on ‘Reinforcement Learning for 2D Car Navigation: Effects of Input and Exploration Strategies’, and Rokas Lemežis for his work on ‘Investigating the Structural Phases of Calcium Chlorapatites by Solid-State NMR’.
Novian established the Young Scientists Scholarship to promote collaboration between Lithuanian science and business and to encourage young scientists to conduct relevant ICT research using advanced technologies.
In the 2025 competition, the company promoted technological topics such as artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, high-performance computing (HPC) solutions, solutions for technological security and resilience of society, as well as technologies for climate change.
Novian’s businesses focus on innovation. Novian Pro implements defence, aerospace, and space projects that use advanced technologies. Novian Technologies is one of the founding members of the Lithuanian Quantum Technologies Association and is actively involved in the development of the quantum technology ecosystem in the country.
In addition, in 2025, Novian joined the consortium for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) International Science and Technology Initiatives (MISTI) programme for Lithuania.
This project aims to develop the application of innovation in artificial intelligence and the development of technologies to enhance societal security and resilience, as well as in the application of high-performance computing to combat climate change and the development of quantum technologies.
