This year, Novian – a group of companies working in the field of programming and IT infrastructure services – became the sponsor of scholarships established by the DigiTech sector association Infobalt and intended for the best young scientists. The scholarships are awarded to scientists whose work is of a high scientific standard and is related to digital technologies, their application in scientific research and other subject areas.

“Application of advanced technologies is inseparable from digitalisation, and by contributing to the activities of young scientists, we aim not only to foster new scientific ambitions but also to promote cooperation between science and business,” said Tomas Vitkus, head of Novian.

The scholars were selected from the participants of the young scientists conference “Interdisciplinary Research in Physical and Technological Sciences”. There were 44 young researchers, 13 of whom applied for the Infobalt scholarship, and their work was evaluated by the Infobalt association commission. This year, eight scholars were awarded scholarships: the main scholarship (2 thousand euros), two additional ones (1 thousand euros each) and five incentive scholarships (200 euros each).

The main scholarship and the first place were awarded to Gediminas Usevičius for his research work “Studies of the Structure and Dynamics of Methylammonium Lead Chloride Using Electron Paramagnetic Resonance Spectroscopy”.

The main scholarships and the second/third places were awarded to Michail Semenišin for his report “Spray Drone Drift and Its Control with the Help of Adjuvants”, as well as to Justinas Turčak for his report “EPR Spectrometer with Arbitrary Waveform Generation”.

Other incentive scholarships were awarded to:

  • Paula Baltaševičiūtė for her report “Environmental Impact on the Structural and Optoelectronic Behavior of Mixed Tin-Lead Perovskites”;
  • Muhammad Haris for his report “Green Hydrogen Generation Enhancement Employing Plasmonic Nanoparticles”;
  • Oskaras Klimašauskas for his report “Calculation of the Driving Route Based on Artificial Intelligence”;
  • Rokas Lemežius for his report “Solid State NMR Study of Hybrid Calcium Phosphates”;
  • Justina Ramonaitė for her report “Improving the Quality and Intelligibility of the Noise-Affected Speech Signal Based on the Deep Learning Method”.

The 12th Young Scientists Conference was organised by the Young Academy of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences (LMA) in collaboration with the Division of Mathematical, Physical, and Chemical Sciences. The conference took place in panels of physical and technological sciences. Scholarships for young researchers were awarded during the event held at the LMA at the end of May.

The purpose of the Young Scientists Conference is to get acquainted with the research carried out by young scientists in the fields of mathematics, physics, biochemistry, chemistry, astronomy, space, defence and quantum technologies, electronics, informatics, mechanics, energy, materials science, construction engineering and intersections thereof, as well as to get an overview of the issues of scientific interests of young scientists. The patron of the conference is the Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania.

Novian group companies are developing information systems and implementing IT infrastructure projects in Lithuania and abroad. The group includes seven companies situated in Lithuania, Estonia, Norway, Moldova and Rwanda, employing more than 250 people.

In 2023, the activities of Novian companies, taking place in more than 30 countries around the world, covered a wide range of projects from the aviation and defence fields and the development of national information systems to the development, implementation and maintenance of IT infrastructure projects.

Novian companies also dwell on innovation – the focus of interests of their specialists covers areas from artificial intelligence to the application of quantum technologies. At the end of 2023, one of the group’s companies, Novian Technologies, was one of the founders of the Lithuanian Quantum Technologies Association.
